Understand your OneDrive icons

If you’ve ever looked at your taskbar and noticed the OneDrive icon changing colors or shapes, you’re not alone. Here’s what those icons actually mean:

You’re signed into OneDrive for work or school. Everything’s working normally.

OneDrive is not signed in or is paused. You’ll need to click it to fix.

OneDrive has stopped syncing. There’s an issue with your account, storage, or a specific file.

OneDrive is actively syncing your files.

Sync is paused. Click the icon to resume syncing.

There’s a problem (e.g., login issue, permissions, or storage limits).

Quick Tip

If your icon is gray, red, or shows a warning, just click it — OneDrive will usually tell you what needs fixing right away.
